Hello, my name is Edson Vizcarra and I go by the moniker ed808
What’s your background?
I graduated in 2014 with a certificate of completion from Icon Collective in Digital Music Production. I am currently continuing my education with the commitment in life long learning. I am breakbeat enthusiast in the genre of jungle/dnb having releases on various labels, such as, Thorium, Yeska Beatz, Digital6, Ball Park Recordings, Danger Chamber Digital and many more. I have over 9 years of experience in audio production and counting.
How has your practice change over time
My practice has changed by creating systems which allow for production to flow instead of guessing which plugin to apply. I produce with intention and focus in seeing these future productions to completion instead of these projects sitting in my external SSD for undisclosed amounts of time.
What music genre do you most identify with?
My present niche is breakbeat jungle/dnb and the various sub-genres associated with them.
What themes do you pursue?
Great question, as of now I am inspired by samurai culture & philosophies.
I find myself driven to create a theme based on Japanese instruments and the art of swordsmanship and craftsmanship. The art of discipline truly intrigues me.
What’s your scariest experience?
One of my scariest experiences I recall was witnessing people shooting outside of a night club in Long Beach, CA.
What’s your favourite art work?
I truly appreciate graffiti art and how much of me has engulfed this art form. Aside from producing music I also produce digital graffiti art pieces with an app called Procreate.
Describe a real-life situation that inspired you?
One real life experience that will continue to inspire me is renting a studio out with other producing friends and my mentor 6blocc for one whole year we shared a mutual space for producing. There were some instances of collaborating with my mentor which I will never forget. It was by far the best space I produced in.
What’s your most embarrassing moment?
One embarrassing moment I recall is roller skating with a girl and actually losing balance while holding her hand and causing the both of us to collapse in front of a whole crowd of witnesses.
What jobs have you done other than being an artist?
I have mixed and mastered several projects that were not my own.
Why music?
We have the ability to affect human emotions. Music allows us an escape to explore different dimensions. It’s fun and challenging at the same time.
What memorable responses have you had to your work?
Some of the most memorable moments for me as a producer is being able to help other producers out with audio production questions. When producing friends reach out with questions and believing in me to have an answer is by far the most memorable for me because they recognize the hard work.
What food, drink, song inspires you?
Nothing specific inspires me I just have to put in the work and the inspiration comes.
What do you like about your work?
My works are known for the art of editing breaks.
What makes you angry?
Entitlement
What superpower would you have and why?
The power to make anybody laugh with my Dad jokes because I am a Dad.
Name something you love, and why.
I love my family. They ARE my foundation.
Name something you hate, and why.
I hate disrespect. Disrespect leads to unwarranted discrimination which is led by egocentric principles.
What is your dream project?
Helping artists with marketing and branding and watching those I work with succeed.

My mixitecture family, Shades, and Shlump.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?- Focus on impact, and not income.

BIO:
ED808 is a veteran electronic music producer and bass music extraordinaire based in the heart of Carson, CA. Molded by the underground in its purest form, Edson Vizcarra began his journey by attending numerous warehouse parties in the early 90’s. These raw yet entirely organic environments cemented his passion for the music. Following his fixation for bass from Gabber to Techno to Hardcore, it wasn’t until 1996 when he received his first proper introduction to jungle music. Immediately falling in love with the legendary amen break, Ed808 was enthralled.
The realization soon occurred that his dedication to the music would soon translate into his own productions. His musical influences include Producer Social attendees, BC Rydah, DJ Meanstreak, James Clark(Firewater), Ryan Sweeten(Heavenly Father/Demon Cleaner), but most importantly Raoul Gonzalez aka 6Blocc aka R.A.W. With firmly-planted visions and years of creative energy supplementing his motivations, ED808 decided to apply for Icon Collective Production School, one of the most prestigious production schools in the world. Championing artists such as Jauz, Protohype and NGHTMRE, the sky was the limit for ED808 with his newly-acquired abilities.
With a creative mind and a heart full of aspirations, Ed808 now has a diverse discography of personal productions and collaborations ranging from dubstep, 140 breakbeat, future jungle, drum and bass (halftime and minimal) amenizm. He’s played various live performances spanning from Funktion 1 to underground sound systems, but treats every event the same: As professionally as possible. Equipped with APC40, a Korg KP3 and a laptop, expect nothing but one of bass music’s finest pioneers when booking ED808.
